Your Teeth Straightening Options Using Braces in Perth

Did you know that over half (55%) of Australians feel self-conscious about their teeth? If you often find yourself hiding or covering your teeth because of dental imperfections, you’re not alone. Luckily, advancements in restorative and cosmetic dentistry mean there are a plethora of solutions available. Long gone are the days of painful, conspicuous orthodontic appliances. Contemporary braces are quicker and more discrete than ever. While fixed metal braces continue to be an effective solution, here at Perfect Smiles Orthodontics we also offer a range of other treatments. This includes invisible appliances, such as Invisalign, Incognito lingual braces, and ceramic braces, that remain hidden to the untrained eye. These are ideal if you want the benefits of a straight smile without the added attention often associated with metal

Types of Braces

Whether you’re interested in fixed, removable, lingual, or low-cost braces, at Perfect Smiles Orthodontics, there’s a solution for everyone.

Are you scared about traditional metal braces making you look unprofessional in the workplace? Apprehensive about having a mouth full of metal on your child’s wedding day? Whatever your reasons, Invisalign is a great option if you’re looking for a discrete way to achieve a straighter smile.

Invisalign treatment consists of a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten the teeth. Each aligner is custom made from medical grade, wafer-thin plastic using innovative 3D technology. You must wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day and will be given a new set every one to two weeks.

As the aligners are removable, they can be taken out for eating and drinking, brushing and flossing, or photos and special occasions. Compliance is the primary concern here — failure to wear your aligners for the requisite amount of time can interfere and unnecessarily lengthen treatment time.

In terms of pricing, Invisalign costs roughly the same as fixed metal braces. The overall price depends on the length of treatment and the number of aligners required.

Braces FAQ

The cost of any orthodontic treatment depends on a variety of individual circumstances. We take into consideration factors such as the type of brace, the length of treatment, and the severity of your misalignment. That being said, at Perfect Smiles Orthodontics, we pride ourselves on offering a range of orthodontic treatments that are suitable for all budgets. To get a better understanding of how much braces will cost, call us to arrange an consultation.

It is natural to be intrigued about the comfort of braces. After your initial brace fitting, you’ll likely experience mild pain or discomfort for around 3 to 5 days. Braces work by applying continual pressure to the teeth, and this can take a while to become accustomed to. Most patients describe the sensation as a dull ache. If necessary, you can take a mild over-the-counter painkiller such as paracetamol (pandaol) or ibuprofen (nurofen).

You may also experience irritation and soreness if your braces happen to rub the inside of your cheeks. Over time, your gum will thicken and become more robust but, until then, the orthodontist will provide orthodontic wax. This can be applied to the brace brackets that are bothering you to prevent further irritation.

The good news is that braces will have no overarching effect on your ability to eat. Although at first you may find it easier to stick to soft foods, such as rice and soup, eventually you’ll be comfortable eating a variety of foods.

Nevertheless, in order to prevent damage to your braces, you should avoid:

  • Sticky foods such as toffees, chewing gum, and caramel;
  • Hard foods such as crusty bread, popcorn, and apples;
  • Sugary foods such as lollies and chocolate;
  • Fizzy drinks and excessive amounts of juice.

When you have braces it is more important than ever to maintain good oral hygiene. Therefore, we recommend that you brush your teeth using fluoride toothpaste four times a day for at least two minutes. This will help to ensure that plaque cannot build up and harden around your braces.

If you notice that your fixed metal, lingual, or ceramic braces have broken or become loose, you must ring us straight away. The receptionist will arrange for you to visit the practice to have your braces repaired as soon as possible. Please do not wait until your next appointment, as this may unnecessarily hinder and lengthen your treatment.

We understand that accidents can happen, so your first three brace repairs will be free of charge. After this, you will be charged a repair fee for each subsequent breakage. Should you repeatedly break your braces due to lack of diligence, the orthodontist may decide to terminate your treatment.
