Invisalign and Fix Braces Combination Treatment

In some situations, neither Invisalign nor fixed braces alone can fully address a patient’s orthodontic needs. This is where the Invisalign and Fixed Braces combination treatment shines, offering a custom-designed approach that leverages the strengths of both systems to achieve optimal results.

At Perfect Smiles Orthdontics, we use a combination of treatments to best suit our patients’ needs. From Invisalign aligners to fixed braces, we take a comprehensive approach to ensure our clients get the alignment they require. For those with more complex cases, our knowledgeable orthodontists can provide a blend of fixed braces and Invisalign aligners at the ideal time to get the result you want.

If you have missing teeth and would rather avoid implants, our experienced orthodontists may be able to help. By aligning your teeth and correcting the bite, it can help close the gaps that are a result of losing teeth as you age.

How does the combination treatment work?

The Invisalign and Fixed Braces combination treatment can be executed in two main ways:

Sequential Treatment: In this approach, the patient wears fixed braces for the initial phase of treatment to tackle severe orthodontic issues. Once the major corrections have been made, the braces are removed, and the patient switches to Invisalign for the final stages of treatment.

Simultaneous Treatment: In this method, the patient wears fixed braces and Invisalign aligners concurrently. This is typically recommended when the upper and lower jaws require different levels of intervention.

Metal Braces

Metal braces, which comprise small metal brackets affixed to every tooth and connected by a tightening wire, are an effective option for orthodontic cases, whether major or minor. However, due to their invasiveness, they may not be suitable for all patients

Invisalign

Invisalign® treatment is highly appreciated by our adult patients due to the clear aligners’ features. With Invisalign® clear aligners, you can have treatment without anyone noticing as the plastic is transparent. Additionally, the aligners are removable, allowing you to take them out during important meetings or meal times

Benefits of Combination Treatment

The combination of Invisalign and fixed braces offers several advantages:

– It provides a comprehensive solution for complex cases that cannot be adequately treated by either system alone.

– It allows for an accelerated treatment process, with fixed braces handling the heavy lifting and Invisalign fine-tuning the results.

– It minimises the treatment duration of traditional braces, making the orthodontic journey more comfortable for the patient.

– It offers a more aesthetic treatment option, particularly in the final stages when the patient switches to invisible Invisalign aligners.

If you’re pressed on time and need to rotate some of your teeth for alignment, fixed braces are usually the better option. Furthermore, if you want to avoid extractions due to severe overcrowding, fixed braces may provide the additional support that Invisalign may not be able to do.

Traditional metal and clear attachments are highly effective and allow your orthodontist maximum control. Lastly, you have options such as clear or metal self-ligating braces which look like traditional braces, but use clips to attach the archwire instead of elastic bands.

The Cost of Combination Treatment

Combining Invisalign and fixed braces can be more expensive than using either treatment alone. However, the extra cost is often justified by the superior results, faster treatment time by the personalised treatment program.

Combination Treatment - Braces and Invisalign FAQ

A.

Typically, braces tend to work faster than Invisalign. However, the duration of treatment depends on the severity of the orthodontic issue.

Invisalign is included in the treatment plan for those who want quicker results while addressing their aesthetic concerns.

The “better” option depends on individual circumstances. Braces might be a better choice for people with severe misalignment or teens who might forget to wear their aligners. On the other hand, Invisalign could be more suitable for adults seeking discreet and more comfortable treatment.

This is why we offer a combination treatment solution where braces do the “heavy lifting” to address severe misalignment.  Once this is addressed, you can benefit from the excellent comfort and discrete treatment of Invisalign.
